Is Your Hematology QC Sufficient?
A Complete Blood Count (CBC) informs decisions across nearly every patient care pathway, from diagnosing anemia to monitoring a response to treatment. The result is only as trustworthy as the control used to verify it.

Here’s What Your Hematology Control Doesn’t Actually Test
Most laboratories run a control manufactured from the same materials as the test itself. An independently manufactured, third-party control detects biases that a same-source control can’t, giving you a genuinely independent check. Streck’s portfolio of independent controls is designed to be compatible with major hematology instruments, and we provide access to the STATS interlaboratory peer group program to further ensure your lab’s results. Use of Streck controls adds one more layer of confidence to every result that reaches a patient. ISO 15189 advises that laboratories consider independent third-party control materials, either instead of or in addition to those supplied by the instrument manufacturer — this isn’t just good practice, it’s the accreditation standard.
Why an Independent, Third-Party Control
- Generally, independent controls have increased closed-vial stability, reducing the number of cross-over studies required.
- Independent controls reduce the possibility of undetected bias due to the use of co-sourced materials for the reagent and control.
- Controls that are developed independently from the specific system they are designed to evaluate result in unbiased testing.
- Accreditation agencies recommend independent QC materials as best practice.
Signs You Need a Better Hematology Control
If any of these sound like your lab, it’s time for a better control. Each points to a way a control can fall short, from lot changes to inspection prep.
Built for Your Workflow
Built around how your lab actually runs each day.
Long Shelf Life
Extended stability reduces the number of lot-to-lot studies required with each lot change.
Broad Instrument and Parameter Compatibility
Controls purpose built to be compatible with most parameters from every major analyzer brand: Abbott, Beckman Coulter, Diesse, Erma, HTI®, Horiba®, Mindray®, Nihon Kohden®, Siemens® and others.
Single-Tube Coverage
Our STaK-Chex® Plus Retics product covers CBC, 5-part WBC differential, and reticulocytes in one tube for Beckman Coulter DxH 600/800/690T/900 platforms. Reducing refrigeration space and handling time.
STATS ILQC Program
Benchmark your lab’s hematology performance against peer labs using the same instruments, controls and methods, for free.
Confidence in every hematology test starts with an independent quality control that validates your laboratory’s results before it ever reaches a patient’s chart.
Hematology Quality Control Portfolio
Our hematology portfolio spans 3-part and 5-part differentials, linearity verification and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) controls, each assayed for the major instruments. Streck is the leading manufacturer of commercial hematology QC material used by the major cell-counter manufacturers— deep manufacturing credibility your lab can rely on.
