Streck® Urine Preserve

Streck Urine Preserve is a liquid reagent that stabilizes nucleic acid targets in 25 mL to 100 mL of urine for up to 7 days at 6 °C to 37 °C. This preservative limits the lysis of cellular material, which can lead to the contamination of true cell-free targets present at the time of sample collection and inhibits the nuclease mediated degradation of nucleic acids during room temperature storage. With Streck Urine Preserve, you can implement batch processing and bulk handling while eliminating the need for immediate processing or cold chain management.

Once isolated, the nucleic acid targets are suitable for use in many downstream analytical methods such as qPCR, ddPCR and others.

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.
A CE version is also available, not for sale in the U.S.

Frequently Asked Questions

Streck Urine Preserve is a ready-to-use liquid reagent that stabilizes nucleic acid targets in urine for up to 7 days at 6 °C to 37 °C to limit changes associated with sample handling, shipping and field collection. This preservative limits the lysis of cellular material and inhibits nuclease-mediated degradation of nucleic acids during room temperature storage.

Streck Urine Preserve is designed to stabilize 25 mL to 100 mL of urine. The reagent is available in single-use containers sized appropriately for the volume of urine being preserved.

Streck Urine Preserve contains a PCR-compatible blue dye to provide visual reassurance that reagent has been added to the urine sample. This visual indicator prevents errors where samples might be left unpreserved and ensures proper sample handling.

Streck Urine Preserve is for Research Use Only and not for use in diagnostic procedures in the United States. A CE version is also available for markets outside the United States. Researchers should verify the regulatory status appropriate for their region and intended use.

Isolated nucleic acids from urine preserved with Streck Urine Preserve are suitable for many downstream applications including PCR, qPCR, next-generation sequencing and other molecular analyses. The preservative is PCR-compatible and does not interfere with nucleic acid extraction or amplification.

Streck Urine Preserve can easily be added to urine samples at the time of collection, even in field settings. The 7-day room temperature stability reduces the need for immediate sample extraction, allows for batch processing and eliminates costs and complications associated with cold chain shipping. This makes urine-based nucleic acid research more practical and accessible.

Cell lysis in urine samples releases genomic DNA and RNA from cells present in the urine, which can contaminate and dilute the true cell-free nucleic acid targets present at the time of sample collection. Streck Urine Preserve inhibits cell lysis and maintains the collection-time concentrations of nucleic acids in urine, ensuring that downstream analysis reflects the actual biomarker levels rather than contamination.
