ESR-Chex®

ESR-Chex is an assayed hematology control for evaluating the accuracy and precision of automated and manual ESR testing methods. This control is manufactured from human red blood cells and can be used in the same manner as a patient sample. ESR-Chex reacts to physical factors such as benchtop vibration, temperature and tube angle, highlighting possible variables that may affect the accuracy of patient results.

The clear and distinct interface between the red blood cell layer and the plasma is easy to read and provides accurate and reproducible results.

Frequently Asked Questions

ESR-Chex is a whole blood sed-rate control for automated and manual ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) testing methods. It is available in two levels (normal and abnormal) and assayed for the most frequently used sedimentation rate tubes in conjunction with the Classical Westergren, Modified Westergren and Wintrobe methods.

ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) measures how quickly red blood cells settle in a tube and is used as a marker of inflammation in the body. Elevated ESR can indicate various conditions including infections, autoimmune diseases and cancer. Accurate ESR testing requires proper quality control to ensure reliable results.

ESR-Chex is manufactured from human red blood cells so it can be used in the same manner as a patient sample. This patient-like composition ensures the control reacts to the same physical factors that affect patient results, providing realistic quality control that validates the entire ESR testing procedure.

ESR-Chex reacts to physical factors such as benchtop vibration, temperature and tube angle that can affect ESR results. By responding to these variables in the same way patient samples do, ESR-Chex highlights possible issues that may affect the accuracy of patient results, allowing laboratories to identify and correct problems before they impact clinical care.

ESR-Chex is available in two levels: normal and abnormal. This bi-level format allows laboratories to verify ESR testing performance at both expected and elevated sedimentation rates, ensuring accuracy across the clinically relevant range.

ESR-Chex offers 95-day open-vial stability and 365-day closed-vial stability. This extended shelf life reduces the number of shipments and associated costs while ensuring the control remains usable throughout the year.

Yes, ESR-Chex is assayed for both manual and automated ESR testing methods. This broad compatibility makes it suitable for laboratories using Classical Westergren, Modified Westergren or Wintrobe manual methods as well as automated sed-rate analyzers.
